Gary Robert Hull, 77, Elmo, Missouri, entered into rest surrounded by family on March 5, 2025, in Maryville, Missouri.
He was born to Lowell and Kathryn (Kenagy) Hull on April 17, 1947, in Elmo, Missouri. He attended Elmo school and graduated from West Nodaway in 1965. He attended Northwest Missouri State University earning a degree in Agricultural Business in 1969.
Gary was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Susan Fuller, on February 15, 1969.
Gary worked as a loan officer with Production Credit Association in Dewitt, Maryville, and Clarinda. In 1976 Gary began farming full time. Gary and Susan opened Gary Hull Tax and Accounting in 1987. Gary then got his appraisal certification and real estate license. After getting his broker license, they updated the business to Gary Hull Tax and Realty and continued the business until 2000.
Gary was active in the community, beginning in his youth. He earned his Eagle Scout and participated in the MYF group. He continued his involvement as an adult serving on the West Nodaway R-1 Board of Education, Nodaway County Rescue Unit, and Nodaway County Farm Bureau board. He served on the board of directors of the Nodaway Worth Electric Coop and then on the United Electric board from 1988 to 2019 holding leadership positions on the board including president. He also served on the state-wide Association board for many years.
He was a member of the Hoof and Horn Saddle Club, Elmo United Methodist Church, and the Elmo Community Betterment Club.
Gary got his first horse as a young child and his love for horses continued through his entire life as he raised many foundation bred quarter horses. Some could say his trusty cow horse Jane was loved most. Gary enjoyed riding horses for fun and to work cattle.
Leatherwork was another hobby where he made many saddles and taught several 4-H youths the craft. He raised row crops and cattle, remaining active on the farm until 2023.
Gary funded the mother-daughter trips by selling loads of grain while staying home for some peace and quiet. He was known for his quick wit and perhaps some sarcasm. Gary knew the secret to marriage was saying “yes, dear.”
Gary was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife Susan, daughters Angela (Rick) Miller, Joni (Greg) Adkins, Lisa (Toney) Neal, and Kelli (Stephen) Wilmes; brother Max (Gayle) Hull, brother-in-law Jim (Sheila) Fuller, sister-in-law Nancy (Wayne) Sayler; grandchildren Holly (JJ) Brown, Janelle (Neal) Brown, Matthew Adkins, Grant Adkins, Maggie Miller, Katy Miller, Madeline Wilmes, Ellie Wilmes, Charlotte Wilmes, and Andrew Wilmes; great grandchildren Noah, Owen, Dot, Welsey, and another great grandchild expected soon.
