Georgia Huntley Obituary

Georgia Huntley, 78, of Matthews, NC, went home to be with the Lord on October 5, 2024, after an extended illness. Georgia, or Sandy as many of her family called her, was born May 21,1946, in Henderson County to Rev. Paul Rutledge Ballenger and Eura Amy Beddingfield Ballenger. Georgia married her high school sweetheart, Patrick Warren Huntley, on December 31,1965.
Pat and Georgia made their home in Charlotte, NC, and were married for almost 51 years. Pat retired from Duke Energy and later worked for Southeastern Electric Reliability Corporation. Georgia spent many years as a homemaker, and also worked for Marion Bass Securities for a period. For the last five years of her life, Georgia lived in Matthews, NC, at Windsor Run Retirement Community. Georgia was a long-time member of Calvary Church of Charlotte. She loved her ladies' small group and read her Bible daily. She was the Bible reader when one was needed at her retirement home. Georgia and Pat always had one or two dogs. Their last dogs were Niles and Frazier, and all who visited their home remember the fun they both had with "the boys." Georgia's and Pat's families were enriched by their long-time study of their families' histories. Although Georgia was ill for several years leading up to her death, she was known at Windsor Run for her friendliness and big smile given to all. Georgia and Pat leave a legacy of assisting family members in reaching their educational goals.
Georgia was preceded in death by her husband and her parents. Georgia is survived by her brother Paul (Dee) Ballenger, sisters-in-law Sonia Burleson and Joan (Jon) Miller, and brothers- in-law Tom (Frieda) Huntley and Doug (Becky) Huntley. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, as well as great- and great-great-nieces and great- and great-great-nephews.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Living Water Church in Hendersonville, North Carolina, on Sunday, October 20, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends at the church at 1:00 p.m. before the service. A graveside service will follow at Hoopers Creek Baptist Church cemetery.
A memorial service for Charlotte friends and for staff members and residents of Windsor Run will be held at a later date at Windsor Run; the date for this memorial service will be announced in this online obituary.
