Herbert Hermann, 92 of Sheboygan, WI died peacefully on Friday, October 11th following a brief stay at Countryside Manor. Herb was born in Sheboygan on January 10, 1932. He attended Trinity Lutheran school and graduated from Sheboygan Central High School. Herb served two years in the United States National Guard and three years in the US Army stationed in Korea. Herb was united in marriage with Helen Verlare on October 18, 1958. She preceded him in death on February 28, 1994. On December 28, 1997, he married Harriet Vander Vliet and enjoyed many years of post-retirement travel, both in the United States and abroad.

On March 29, 1958, Herb began his career at the Sheboygan Fire Department as a firefighter. He proudly served as the department’s first union president. In thirty-seven years of service, he worked through the ranks of Lieutenant, Captain, Battalion Chief and retired in 1992 as the City of Sheboygan Fire Chief. After he retired, he was County Board Supervisor for the Town of Sheboygan. He was a charter member of Calvin Christian Reformed Church where he served as a deacon, an usher and on numerous committees.

Herbert is survived by his wife, Harriet, his children, Jeffrey (Toni Albert) Hermann, Sara (Peter) Planton and Joan Bader; grandchildren Shawn Hermann, Allison Planton, Craig (Emily) Planton, Helen Bader, Megan Bader, Hailey Planton; great-grandchildren Rownan, Briar, Greer, and Marek Planton, and Burkleigh Albert; and brother Kenny (Virginia) Hermann and brother-in-law Ernie Fischer. He is further survived by stepchildren Marty (Julie) Vander Vliet, Kristy (Mark) Riley and Russ (Liz) Van Der Vliet and step-grandchildren Sara and Mitchell (Jessica) Albert, John Vander Vliet, Katie Riley, Abigail (Steve) Wright, Grace Riley, Jack Van Der Vliet, and Claire Van Der Vliet. He was preceded in death by his wife Helen; parents Christian and Marie Rusch Hermann, son-in-law, Edward Bader, sisters, Florence, Emily and Clara, and brothers Christian, John, Jake, Henry, Clarence, and Wally.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at Calvin Christian Reformed Church, 2313 Saemann Ave, Sheboygan, from 9:00am until the time of the Funeral Service at 11:00am. Memorials may be made to FAST Foundation for Angelman Syndrome Therapeutics in honor of Herbert’s great-granddaughter, Briar Planton.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Countryside Manor and Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice for their loving care of their father Herbert.
