Herman passed away Wednesday, May 14, 2025 at Miller Pointe in Mandan.
Herman was born on February 6, 1926, in Stark Co. North Dakota to John and Pauline (Dorrheim) Schneider. He attended Antelope Country School, and Hebron High School but remained at home to help on the family farm while his brothers were drafted into military service.
Herman met Dena Kufeldt at a wedding, where being the shy man he was, Dena took the first step in approaching him. They married on June 10, 1951, and were blessed with two children, Diana and Leland.
From 1948 to 1958, Herman co-owned Schneider Service gas station with his brother Bennie. He later pursued construction work, building homes and bridges, and also worked at Sax Motors. For 28 years, Herman dedicated himself to the City of Hebron as a maintenance man and served on the City Council for 12 years.
Active in his community, Herman was the church council treasurer and involved with the Hebron Historical Society. A true jack of all trades, he was known for fixing anything, remodeling homes, woodworking, rug looming, fishing, reading, and sharing coffee and conversation at the Wagon Wheel. He retired in 1991 but remained active and helpful to many.
Herman is survived by his daughter, Diana Schneider of Bismarck; son, Leland Schneider of Bismarck; sister-in-law, Erma Achtenberg; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dena; parents, John and Pauline Schneider; siblings, Ida Heinle, Louise Hirning, Freida Opp, Bennie Schneider, and Edwin Schneider; and daughter-in-law, Patty Schneider.
