Koop was born on October 19, 1943, in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Leo and Jessie (Dean) Kueper. He married Pamela Stromert on February 27, 1965, at St. Patrick’s Church in Dubuque, Iowa. She preceded him in death on August 30, 2021.

Koop was employed at John Deere Tractor Works for 37 years and was a member of the Army National Reserves. He and Pam loved traveling to their granddaughters’ sporting events and faithfully watched on livestream when they couldn’t be there in person. Koop was an avid fan of the Packers and Badgers, and enjoyed golfing and bowling. For many years, he coached the junior bowling league at Sunset Lanes in Dickeyville. Koop and Pam were longtime card club members. He loved his two cats, Zoey and Katy Purry. Koop’s corvette was his pride and joy. He took immaculate care of his car, often participating in car shows as well as car cruises with a cruise club.

Koop is survived by three children, Christina (Ryan) Haney, Dumbarton, Scotland, Scot (Betty) Kueper, Jackson, WI, and Stefanie (Shane) Kremer, LaMotte, IA; six grandchildren, Ryan Haney, Cassy Haney, Ashley Kueper, Aubrey Kueper, Alyssa Kremer, and Macey (special friend, Alex Asbury) Kremer; and Pam’s siblings, James Stromert and Michael Stromert, both of Marion, Iowa.

He was also preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Leo Kueper, Jr.

The family would like to thank Phil Schwinn, Jeff and Sara Bechen, the Kieler EMS and all of Koop’s healthcare team members for their compassionate care and assistance over the years.
