James Bryatt Woody, a beloved husband, father, and proud veteran, passed away peacefully at his residence on April 18, 2025, at the age of 89. He was born on June 7, 1935, in Yancey County, North Carolina.
James had a commendable career, dedicating over ten years as a truck driver. His work was a testament to his strong work ethic and commitment to providing for his family. His journey, however, was not solely defined by his career; he proudly served in the United States Air Force for over 26 years. This honor included two tours in Vietnam, showcasing his dedication to his country and his unwavering spirit.
A man of many interests, James enjoyed traveling and exploring new places, but it was his family that stood at the center of his world. Over his sixty-seven years of marriage to his devoted wife, Beverly Clement Woody, together, they raised four children: Bryate Woody (Shari), Edward Woody (Tammy Thornton), Bill Woody (Charissa), and daughter, Adena Woody Hillman(Don) who preceded him in death.
James is survived by his cherished wife, three loving children and eight grandchildren. He is also preceded in death by his parents, Carl Woody and Ethel McMahan Woody Hennessee.
A private graveside service to honor his life will be held on April 22, 2025, at Woody Cemetery in Burnsville, North Carolina.
