John Edward Clippinger, 74, of Baldwin City, Kansas, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2025 comforted by his family and friends at home. He was born in Columbus, Ohio on June 03, 1950. The son of John Arthur Clippinger and Mary (Garver) Clippinger.
John was a graduate of Swampscott high school and continued his education at Baker University in Baldwin City. After college, he joined the Army in 1973 and served through 1994. During his 20 year military career he was sent to multiple locations including Germany, Korea, and the Gulf war. During his career, he worked his way up from an infantryman to an intelligence analyst. While stationed in Fort Huachuca, Arizona, he met his wife, Pranom Clippinger. They were married for 36 years and had one child, Mary Clippinger.
During his life, John was an avid animal lover, especially when it came to dogs. He would take every opportunity to make sure he could care for as many dogs as possible. He always insisted on having at least one dog adopted in his house and would frequently visit the Lawrence Humane Society to spend time with dogs awaiting adoption.
After retirement, John enjoyed reading and planning various places he wanted to visit. Locations that he was able to visit included Angkor Wat, the river Kwai WW2 memorial, the ancient ruins in Sukhothai Park, and the Doi Suthep temple in Chiang Mai.
In his last year of his life, he never slowed down and travelled to visit relatives all around the world. With his wife and niece, he visited his family in Ohio and Indiana. Afterwards, he travelled with his wife and daughter to visit relatives in Thailand and vacation in Osaka, Japan.
He is survived by his brother Arthur Clippinger of Cuyahogo Falls, OH, his wife Pranom Clippinger of Baldwin City, KS, his daughter Mary Clippinger of Kansas City, MO, and his dog Rory Clippinger.

John and I were students together at Baker. In fact, his dad was my major professor. It was always nice being invited to his home and spending time with him and his parents through the years. My thoughts and prayers are with his family as they mourn his passing.
