John was predeceased by his parents, Domenick Mattesich and Maria D. Mattesich (née Piccini).
Born on February 11, 1936, in Sansego, Italy-now Susak, Croatia-John's journey to the United States began at the tender age of 12, driven by determination and a desire for new opportunities. After settling in the U.S., he attended A.J. Demarest High School in Hoboken, NJ, where he laid the foundation for a life dedicated to education and achievement. John graduated from the prestigious Stern School of Business at New York University and later earned an MBA from Fairleigh Dickinson University with Magna Cum Laude honors.
John enjoyed a long and successful career on Wall Street, specializing in Commodities Accounting. His expertise and professionalism earned him the respect of colleagues. Throughout his career, he was known for his generosity in mentoring others, helping to advance the careers of many young professionals who sought his guidance.
A proud Army veteran, John served his country with honor. His deep sense of duty extended beyond his military service; as a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus, he dedicated himself to charitable works and community service, embodying the values of faith and compassion. He volunteered as a lector and served on the finance council at the Church of the Epiphany, further demonstrating his commitment to his community and faith. Additionally, he served as president of the St. Nicholas Society of Sansego, honoring his heritage and roots.
John was a selfless man who loved his family deeply. He and Maria enjoyed hosting their large family of children and grandchildren in their home on many occasions. He cherished fishing with his sons and grandsons, was passionate about politics, and found joy in listening to Andrea Bocelli. He was loved and respected by many.
May he rest in peace, embraced by the love of God.

John, and I retired on the same day from Daiwa Capital Markets. Funny, John wore a Walkman on lunch hour, so he could listen to Mark Levin. He suggested I do the same.i really was not into it. Now 13 years later I watch Mark Levin all the time. When I do I think of John. R I P John
