Floydada - Jose V. Martinez, age 89, of Floydada, passed away on January 31, 2025 in Lubbock. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, February 6, 2025 at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Floydada. Interment will follow at the Floydada Cemetery. Family will recite rosary at 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 5, 2025 at Moore-Rose Funeral Home in Floydada. Arrangements are under the personal care of Moore-Rose Funeral Home of Floydada.
Jose "Chefa" V. Martinez a loving and devoted son, brother, uncle and friend was called home to the Lord on Friday, January 31, 2025. He was surrounded by his family.
Chefa was born on September 13, 1935, in Derby, Texas to Guadalupe and Bernardo Martinez. He was 89 years young. He was dearly loved and will be missed by all his family. He was a dedicated employee of the Massie family. He farmed and maintained the grounds of their home for most of his life. He was known to wave at many passersby along Texas Avenue. He grew up in Derby, Texas and moved to Floydada in 1952.
He is reunited with his lifetime partner, Beatrice Covington. He is also preceded in death by his mother, Guadalupe Martinez; father, Bernardo Martinez; his brothers, Ramon, Fidel, Ismael, Mingo, Benny Martinez and his sister Manuela Mendoza.
He is survived by one brother, Alfredo Martinez, and one sister, Irma Garcia, both of Floydada; his stepchildren Robert (Vickey) Covington, Darlene Torrez, Diane (Mike) Griggs, Steve (Kit) Covington, Stanley (Jerry) Covington, Kenneth Covington, Keith (Rachael) Covington, Glenda Harmon, and Glenn (Kim) Vasquez and numerous nieces and nephews.
