Josephine Schleski, age 101, of New Brighton, MN passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, Sept. 19, 2024. Her memorial service will be at 2:00pm on Monday, Sept 23, 2024 at Washburn-McReavy Funeral Chapel, 706 4th Ave NW, New Brighton, MN 55112. Burial will be at the Hillside Cemetery in St Anthony, MN. Visitation for friends and relatives will be a half-hour prior to the service.
Josephine was born September 16, 1923 in Opole, MN to Frank Sr. and Cecilia (Tadych) Lesniak. She was very independent and self-sufficient - a hard worker, with many talents, who lived life simply and conservatively. At age 16 she left home to support herself, worked at Thermo King for 16 years, built her own home, and owned her own beauty shop for over 35 years. In addition, she housed foreign students attending the University of MN, enjoyed playing music (accordion, piano, and organ), and especially enjoyed polka dancing. At Meadowood Shores and Brightondale in New Brighton, where she resided for the last 22 years, Josephine especially loved to play cards and bingo. She was always willing to help others, and was a true friend to those who knew her well.
Josephine was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Frank Jr and Roman Lesniak; and sisters, Pauline Klein and Michalina Zupan. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
