Kimberly DeStephano Obituary

Published by Legacy on Oct. 1, 2024.
Kimberly Rae DeStephano passed away early in the morning on September 24, 2024.
Born April 19, 1957 to the late Mary (Lauber) Mitzel. She shared a special bond with her late grandparents, Grace Henrietta (Gross) and Charles Henry Lauber. Kim was a loving and protective sister to her three younger brothers, Ricky Henise, Roy Henise, and the late, Craig Henise. Her deep connections with her extended family brought her immense joy, especially her cherished cousins.
Kim began her career at Bowen & McLaughlin in York, where she built several lifelong friendships. She was a devoted wife to the late Anthony J. DeStephano. Together they ran Cardboard Dreams, a newsstand and sports collectible shop in West York for thirty years.
She is survived by her two daughters, Jenna DeStephano Leber and Bree DeStephano; and her beloved grandchildren, Greyson Anthony, Henry Gannon, and Charlotte Grace Leber.
In her free time, Kim immersed herself in the arts, finding inspiration in Renaissance, Pre-Raphaelite, and Impressionist paintings. She often visited museums, with especially fond memories of her trips to the Tate Gallery in London. Her passion for art extended to co-creating and teaching an enrichment program called "Art Goes to School" beginning at Lincolnway Elementary in West York.
Kim was a talented artist in nature photography, illustration, and batik. She was a voracious reader, an explorer of the world of birds as an amateur ornithologist, and fierce competitor during games of Texas Gin-Rummy, Scrabble, and Parcheesi.
In accordance with her wishes, there will be no service. Though she wanted us to carry on without sorrow, the reality of her absence weighs heavily on our hearts. Your friends, brothers, sisters, cousins, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and daughters are feeling this loss deeply. We promise to cherish our fondest memories of you and keep them close.

Kim and I lived in the same apartment building on Madison Ave for several years. We spent many mornings together in my apartment having a cup of tea. She was sunny! My last memory of her is her last day at the building. She picked up her walker and threw it across the parking lot! She will be missed!
