LARRY W. RENQUIST, 84, of Julesburg, CO, passed away Friday, October 11, 2024, at Denver Hospice in Denver, CO.
Larry was born on September 27, 1940, in Sidney, NE, to Mervin J. and Alene (Koenig) Renquist. He attended rural school in Sedgwick County, CO, before attending Campion Academy in Loveland. Larry subsequently attended Colorado State College before dedicating his life to agriculture.
On November 18, 1962, Larry married Leona "Butch" Weinbender at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Julesburg, and they were blessed with a son, Wade. They made their home in Julesburg, where they farmed and operated a feedlot for many years.
Larry had a passion for the land and was devoted to his family. After a somewhat tepid introduction, he discovered a love for golf later in life. Larry would initially play a round with one club and a putter, but the game grew on him and became one of his favored pastimes. Larry was also a proud CSU Rams fan and followed his team with unwavering loyalty as a proud season ticket holder to the CSU Football Games and attended many CSU Volleyball Games and CSU Men's and Women's Basketball Games.
Mostly, Larry was a man of hard work and commitment. While he had opportunities for travel and leisure, he always seemed most content when he set his hands to purpose or a task to toil on.
He is survived by his wife, Leona "Butch" of Julesburg; his children, Wade (Jeff) Renquist of Aurora; his siblings, Rod (Linda) Renquist, Randy (Susan) Renquist, and Merv Hansmeier; former sister-in-law, Joan Shaffer and sister-in-law Lavonne Weinbender; his "adopted children" (nephews and nieces): Shawn Barnes; Tina Kizer; Trever Renquist; Ben Renquist; Shad Hansmeier; Shane Hansmeier; Ryan Renquist; Kerri Long; Matt Renquist; Nels Troelstrup; Ned Troelstrup; Nile Troelstrup; and Nevin Troelstrup and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mervin and Alene Renquist; nephew, Troy Renquist; brothers-in-law, Gary Hansmeier and Chico Troelstrup; and sister-in-law, Lenora Troelstrup.
A memorial for a CSU Scholarship has been established in Larry's memory.
