Leslie "Les" Forest Dunckel, of Haslett, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home on January 12, 2025, at the age of 79. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, Perry Chapel, 214 S. Main St.,
Perry, MI 48872. The family will receive friends beginning at 12:00 pm unitl the time of service.
Born on June 8, 1945, in Lansing, Michigan, to Forest and Madeline (Emmert) Dunckel, Les was a man of integrity and kindness who lived a life full of love and service to others.
Raised alongside his brothers, Stanley and Steven, Les attended Williamston High School, where he formed lifelong friendships and developed a strong sense of community. After graduation, he proudly served his country in the United States Army, distinguishing himself as a dedicated soldier. Returning to civilian life, Les found love with Edith Christine "Cricket" Tucker, whom he married on August 2, 1969. Together, they embarked on a journey of love and laughter, raising their two wonderful children, Jennifer and John.
Les worked for General Motors, retiring in 1993 after many years of loyal service. His work ethic and commitment to excellence were hallmarks of his character, earning him the respect and admiration of his colleagues. Even after retirement, Les remained active and involved in his community, particularly as a dedicated member of the Crossroads United Methodist Church for over 50 years.
A man of deep faith, Les was a living example of selflessness and compassion. He touched the lives of many through his involvement with the church, where he also shared his musical talents by playing his guitar and helping in many aspects. Les's faith was the cornerstone of his life, guiding him in all his endeavors and providing comfort and strength during life's challenges.
Les had a profound appreciation for nature, often finding peace in the simple pleasure of watching wildlife with his late wife, Christine, who preceded him in death after 53 years of marriage. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, enjoying the tranquility and beauty of the great outdoors; a passion he shared with his lifelong best friend, George Fox, and his family. These activities provided a sanctuary where he could reflect and recharge. In his quieter moments, Les enjoyed reading, he loved a good story.
Above all, Les cherished the time he spent with his family. He was a loving and devoted father to Jennifer (Seth) Harvey and John (Beth) Dunckel. His role as a grandfather to Ashlyn, Madison, and Olivia brought him immeasurable joy, and he embraced every opportunity to be a part of their lives. His siblings, Stanley (Elaine) Dunckel and Steven (Janet) Dunckel, along with several nieces, nephews, and countless friends, will forever remember his warm smile, generous spirit, and the gentle way he made each person feel valued and loved. Les was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife, Christine, and his best friend, George Fox.
Leslie Forest Dunckel's life was a testament to the power of kindness, the strength of faith, and the enduring bonds of family. He will be remembered and celebrated by his family with each tear shed and with every smile offered.
