Lois R. Doran of Saginaw, Michigan

Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at Union Court Assisted Living in Saint Charles, Michigan. She was 99 years old. Lois R. Browning was born on May 30, 1925, at home in Saginaw, Michigan, one of 11 children born to the late Fred and Julia (Wallace) Browning. She was a 1943 graduate of Arthur Hill High School. While hanging out with friends at the “sand hill neighborhood” she met the love of her life, Harold Louis Doran. They eventually dated, fell in love, and were united in marriage on May 22, 1943; he preceded her in death on June 22, 1999. A true Rosie the Riveter, she began her working career manufacturing guns during World War II. Upon her husband’s return from the army, they settled down, bought a home and she began working as a ward clerk at Saginaw General Hospital, retiring in 1987 after 36 years of loyal and dedicated service. The role of her lifetime, one she treasured and cherished above all others, was to be a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. A woman of deep faith she was raised within the Michigan Avenue Evangelical United Methodist Church, converted, attended and raised her family at St. Andrew Catholic Church, and later returned to the Methodist faith at Swan Valley United Methodist Church. Lois was a gifted and talented quilter and sewer creating many beautiful quilts and clothing over the years. She loved line dancing to country music, bowling and golfing. Lois pursued perfection in all that she did, for always following through with whatever she promised, and for truly living an amazing life filled with many beautiful memories and stories.

Surviving are a brother, Franklin Browning of Saginaw; four children: Harold Doran of Hemlock; Kitrinka (Alan) McKenzie of Hemlock; Ruth (Lon) English of Owosso; William (Donna) Doran of Ft. Pierce, FL; seven grandchildren: Kathleen Doran; Nicholas (Samantha) McKenzie; Theodore (Nichole) Hunt II; Krystyna Doran; and George (Lyndsey) Doran; many great-grandchildren. Also surviving are countless nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends to numerous to mention but held closely to her heart.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Doran; parents, Fred and Julia Browning; two daughters-in law: Heike Doran and Kathryn Doran; a son-in-law: Theodore Hunt; two grandchildren: Wesley McKenzie and Theresa Britton; nine brothers and sister: Harold, Grant, Fred, Roy, Esther, Eva, Martha, Irene, and Eleanor.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Union Court Assisted Living and Residential Hospice for all the love and care they provided to Lois and the family.

A funeral service will take place at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, February 3, 2025, at the W. L. Case and Company Funeral Directors, 201 N. Miller Rd., Saginaw, MI 48609. Lois’ nephew, Jerry Larkin will officiate. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
