Mr. Lorraine Hinson Sims, age 96 of Shelby, NC, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, October 13, 2024.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Florence Tollett Sims of the home, children, Becci Himes of Houston, TX, Shelly Youngblood (Carey) of Shelby, NC, and Kelly Economou (Chad) of Kansas City, MO, grandchildren, Elizabeth Champion (Jeremy) of Shelby, NC, Kelly Barger (Shane) of Shelby, NC, James Youngblood (Emily) of Little Rock, AR, and Kate Eggenberger (Brian) of Houston, TX, great grandchildren, Hannah Champion, Lucas Champion, Kensley Greene, Colton Greene, Charlie Barger, Cove Youngblood, Luca Eggenberger, Levi Eggenberger, and Liam Eggenberger, three sisters, Gwen Dow of Smyer, TX, Mary Beth Sims of Smyer, TX, and Jane Bradberry of Smyer, TX, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Born March 22, 1928, in Post Texas, Lorraine was the son of the late Lester James Sims and Thelma Elizabeth Hinson Sims and was preceded in death by his four brothers, L.J. Sims, Dotson Sims, Billy Jack Sims, and Johnny Sims.
Lorraine was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He was a faithful member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. He attended several other churches in the past serving as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher, and numerous other committees. Lorraine enjoyed talking with people on his HAM radio, gardening, reading, listening to good music, amateur photography, trips with Pleasanteers, and spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren. Lorraine will be dearly missed by all that knew him.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 4:00pm Thursday, October 17, 2024, at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Derek Greene. A visitation will be held from 3:00pm – 4:00pm prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, 198 Pleasant Ridge Church Road, Shelby NC 28152 or to Hospice of Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby NC 28150.
