Luther “Gene” Cook, 75, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on June 11, 2025.

Born on January 9, 1950, Gene was a lifelong resident of Beckley, West Virginia. He was a beloved brother, father, grandfather, and friend whose warmth, kindness, and generous spirit touched all who knew him.

Gene is survived by his brother Danny Cook; sister Debbie Shrewsberry; half-sisters Terri Blake, Sheila Brown, and Pam Murphy; and his children Tammy Crawford, Tommy Cook, Gary Cook, Lori Buis, Heather Cook, and Conner Cook. He also leaves behind a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought great joy to his life.

He was preceded in death by his father, Luther Frank Cook; mother, Naomi Ruth Cook; sister, Sharon Grindle; and brothers, Larry and Boyd Cook.

Gene retired from the Board of Education, where he served for many years as a dedicated school bus driver. Outside of work, he found joy and community in many places — flying RC planes with friends at the local airfield, bowling in leagues at Leisure Lanes, and spending time at ACT Auto Parts. He will be remembered for his easy smile, warm heart, and steadfast friendship.

No services are planned at this time.
