Marcia Huhta Obituary

Marcia (Bessette) Huhta, 85, passed peacefully in her home on Monday, March 16, 2026.

Marcia was a devout Catholic, devoted wife, and loving mother with a lifelong love of dancing. She always loved to dance, especially a good polka - and after a serious car accident, she kept right on dancing from her wheelchair with the Revontulet Dancers of Fitchburg, MA. She spent years learning Finnish and enjoyed weaving, card games, cribbage, and especially Scrabble - you didn't want to be on the wrong end of one of her triple word scores. Marcia loved traveling with her family and was known for her generosity, warmth, and the way she made everyone feel so welcome and cared for.

She was born in Moosup on April 9, 1940 to the late Raymond and Sophie (Koss) Bessette. Marcia was a Registered Nurse and worked at Villa Maria Nursing Home in Plainfield, CT for decades. She went back to school in 2003 to become a licensed massage therapist and enjoyed working with her clients for several years.

Marcia was married to Matti Huhta on November 23, 1961 in All Hallows Church in Moosup, CT. He survives her. Together they had five children and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Marcia was predeceased by her sisters, Lynne Harris and Cynthia King; her daughter, Linnea Courtemanche; and her grandson, Ian Courtemanche.

Marcia is survived by her husband Matti; her sister, Joyce Campbell; her children, Jussi Huhta (and wife, Melissa), Eric Huhta, Marja Huhta (and husband, Jonathon), and Kirsti Morich (and husband, Ryan); her grandchildren Kiira Parry (and husband, Chris) and Josef Huhta; and her great-grandchildren, Otto, Miia, and Leevi. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and their children.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, March 24th, 2026 at 10:30am at All Hallows Church, Moosup, CT. Please meet directly at the church. Burial will immediately follow at All Hallows Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Family and friends will be invited to a celebration of life that will be held in the summer at Aura Hall in Voluntown, CT.
