Mary Sparks Horn Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Benefield Funeral Home of Lineville on Jun. 17, 2025.
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Mary Evelyn Horn, who was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday June 16, 2025 at the age of 85. A devoted Christian, faithful wife, loving mother and doting grandmother, Mary's life was a testament to faith, family, and resilience.
Mary was born October 8, 1939 in Ashland, AL and was the daughter of the late Basil and Lassie Sparks. From a young age, she learned the values of hard work and unwavering faith, principles that would guide her throughout her life. After growing up in Cragford and Olive Branch AL, she graduated in 1958 from Clay County High School (CCHS). Following graduation, she held various jobs working in Birmingham and Clay County. On May 15, 1965, she married Frank Horn and moved to Delta and later settled in Lineville, AL where they started their family. Together, they built a life rooted in their shared Christian beliefs and devotion for each other.
Mary was a proud mother to three daughters: Rosemary, Sandra, and Janice. She poured her heart and soul into raising them, instilling in each the importance of gentleness, kindness, integrity, and a strong relationship with God. Compassion was her gift and she led by example, regularly sharing what she had with those in need. She loved being a homemaker and made her house a 'home' and soft place to land. She was a wonderful cook and had a passion for gardening. Her home was always surrounded by flowers. She also loved antiques and the thrill of the hunt – eventually becoming a business owner and opening her own shop. She was a constant source of wisdom, comfort, and unconditional love, always ready with a listening ear and a warm embrace. Her favorite role and joy in life was being Nana to twin Granddaughters, Leah and Lana. A faithful member of the Lineville Baptist Church for over 60 years, Mary served the Lord with joy and dedication. She taught Sunday school, Mission Friends, and was an active participant in countless church activities. Her quiet strength and unwavering faith were an inspiration to all who knew her. She truly embodied the words of Proverbs 31:25:"She is clothed with Strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come".
Survivors include her daughters - Rosemary Givens(Dan), Sandra Benefield(Matt), Janice Jones(Kevin), granddaughters - Leah Benefield, Lana Fornwalt(Trey), Rachel Hughes(Collin), Bethany Jones, brother – Donald Sparks(late Dimple Sparks), sister-in-law Reba Horn(late James Horn), nieces and nephews and a myriad of great nieces/nephews, and great-great nieces/nephews, and a longtime friend Jeynelle Brooks.
She was preceded in death by grandparents Eugene and Effie Sparks, parents Basil and Lassie
Sparks, husband Frank Horn, brother Bill Sparks(Ester Sparks), sister Barbara Pace(Cleve Pace), sister-in-law Sara Shaddix(Dan Shaddix), sister-in-law Helen Smith(Orin Smith) and niece Phyllis Upchurch.
Mary was a quiet and gentle soul - her beautiful spirit will be missed by all. What a joy it must be for her to see Jesus face to face, have a new healed body, and be united with those she loves! A home-going celebration in memory of her life is scheduled for Friday, June 20 at 2:00 PM at Lineville Baptist Church. Visitation will be held at the church from 12:30 until 2:00 PM before the service. A graveside service will follow at Lineville City Cemetery.
Dan Givens, Matt Benefield, Kevin Jones, Trey Fornwalt, Tim Sparks, and Max Cosme will serve as pallbearers. Flowers are accepted. The family requests donations be made to Lineville Baptist Church PO Box 356 Lineville, AL 36266.
"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith "- 2 Timothy 4:7
