Norma M. Johnson, age 87, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2023. She was the beloved wife of Clayton R. Johnson of Tamworth NH. They were childhood sweethearts who were baptized, confirmed and married at Gustaf Adolph Lutheran Church in New Sweden, ME. Surviving her are her husband Clayton Johnson, daughters Beth Barnard, Holly Nagle, son-in-law, Christopher Nagle and grandson Camden Barnard, as well as her brother, Graydon Mahoney, brother-in-law Wilmer Johnson and sister-in-law, Debbie Blanchette.
She was predeceased by parents, Fred and Miriam Mahoney, sister Frances Etheridge and her husband Bud, brother Maurice "Pete" Mahoney and his wife Carole, Martha Mahoney, Emery Blanchette, and Bonnie Johnson. She was blessed to have a large group of nieces, nephews, and of course all the "greats" as well.
Norma attended a one room school house in Woodland ME, graduated from Caribou High School, the University of Maine/Farmington and beautician school. Norma knew everyone in town and was an excellent source of news around the dinner table. Most of her early married years were spent in North Kingstown, RI, where the Sunnybrook Drive "family" and her co-workers kept her happily entertaining. Many great celebrations and holidays were hosted there where everyone was welcomed. She enjoyed a 30 year career in banking until her retirement, when she and Clayton moved to NH. Norma was an excellent cook and baker; well known for her whirl-a-gigs and hermit cookies. She loved skiing, hiking, card playing and dancing with her husband. Her caring nature found her volunteering when she and Clayton moved to NH; offering rides to appointments to those in need, and working at the food pantry. Clayton landscaped their simple yard in NK into a beautiful tribute to the woman he loved; each year adding special trees, shrubs and perennials.
She loved being a grandmother to Camden Barnard. They had a special bond, as his Moo-Moo; playing marbles, working at White Lake State Park and caring for Teak, the beloved chocolate Lab whom Norma treated as another family member. Beth, Holly Chris and Camden have been blessed to have Norma in their lives and always felt supported, loved and cherished. Her gentle teaching on the important things in life will always be remembered; like a cardinal visiting in the garden; a sign of faith, hope and love.
Norma's faith, love of her family and friends and the time spent creating beautiful moments to celebrate time together were the highlights of her life. Norma and Clayton were able to travel to many locations, and enjoyed the trips to Hawaii, California, cruise to Alaska and Europe and many road trips to visit family and friends. They experienced much joy in their 68 years of marriage.
