Norma Jean Coppage McCarty passed away September 26, 2024 in Annapolis from complications with Alzheimer's. She is survived by her sister Glenda, her daughter Lisa, and grandchildren Alayna, Matthew and Cassie.
Jean was born in Shawnee Oklahoma on June 12th, 1937. She was a member of the Potawatomi Nation on her mother's side and attended school in Shawnee until enrolling in Oklahoma University.
It was at University that she met and married the love of her life Wendell Edward McCarty, known by all as Mac.They shared 50 years of love, laughter, conversation, theater and travel until his death in 2006. Jean and Mac founded Davies Theater group at Davies Unitarian Church in Camp Springs, MD. She was a member of Davies for over 20 years until her move to Annapolis in 2007 where she joined the Unitarian Universalist Church of Annapolis. Her friends and church fellowship brought her great joy.
Professionally, Jean worked for the Prince George Gazette, and was a real estate agent for Century 21. She was a published author "This Land Of Labrador" along with winning a national art contest in 2002 for her painting. In her later years Jean enjoyed outings and travel with her sister and friends. Jean had a great smile and was always pleased to see friends. I knew her from the Unitarian Universalist Church of Annapolis and in Heritage Harbour where she resided for a number of years. Jean enjoyed the church parties and helped plan them. She enjoyed seeing Alayna grow up. I enjoyed talking with her because she was so enthusiastic and positive.
