Pastor Lloyd D. Howard, 88, was ushered into the arms of his Lord on Friday, October 11, 2024, at home surrounded by his loved ones.
Born on August 6, 1936, in Carlsbad, New Mexico, he was the son of Shelby and Anna (Keith) Howard. After graduating high school, Lloyd proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1957 as an Airborne Infantryman and was honorably discharged at the rank of Sergeant. On September 7, 1955, before leaving for Germany, he married Phyllis Hensley on the front porch of Phyllis’s parents’ house in Guage, KY. They shared 69 years of wonderful marriage together.
To say that Lloyd was a driven person would be an understatement. He was the co-owner of Hensley Fabricating from 1960 to 1976. Lloyd started the first 10-minute oil change company in Plymouth, Plymouth Express Lube from 1986 to 1994 and was the co-owner of Buckeye Aviation from 1992-2012, which he manufactured power parachutes for recreation and for the military. This job would take him on many journeys throughout the world from Jordan, Israel, China and Egypt just to name a few. Becoming an acquaintance and a friend of John Kennedy Jr. was just a small perk to this position.
Pastor Howard lovingly and devotedly served as the Pastor of the Church of Jesus Christ in Argos for 58 years and was ordained as Bishop in 2022. Truly a man that found the good in everyone and a mentor to countless people. Waking up in the midnight hours to go and to visit someone in the hospital was never a chore, but a labor of love. Finding his way to a jail to show love, compassion and grace to someone who was in need was something that he never regretted. His hobby simply consisted of studying the Bible, wearing out multiple copies that are held together by duct tape.
Lloyd is survived by his wife Phyllis of Argos; his children: Ralph Howard of Argos; Anthony (Lisa) Howard of Argos; daughter Jackie (David) Pennington of Dowagiac, MI; 15 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; siblings: Barbara Back of Jackson, KY; Phyllis (Arnold) Noble of Campton, KY; and Harold Howard of Jackson, KY; and his honorary daughter Freida Conn.
Lloyd is preceded in death by his parents, children: Kenneth “Butch” Howard, Christopher Howard, great-grandchild Erin Edwards, brother Otto, and sisters Lillian and Orpha.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, from 2-7 pm at the Church of Jesus Christ, 15676 Michigan Road, Argos, IN 46501.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 17, 2024 at 11 am at The Church of Jesus Christ, with Pastor Jimmy Snyder and Anthony Howard officiating. Visitation will resume at 10 am at the church.
Burial will take place in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Argos with military honors being rendered by the Army Funeral Honor Guard and the Am. Legion Post #27.
