Finally at peace and ready for his heavenly home, Richard "Dick" Gallaher, 89, passed away at his home in Hilton Head, SC on Friday, October 11th, 2024 in the care of his wife and Hospice Care of the Lowcountry.

A native of Stanaford, WV, he was the son of Stoddart and Lula Gallaher and the first born of their seven sons. James (deceased 1999); Gary (deceased 2005); Ted of New Bern, NC; David of Beaver, WV; Mike of Lewisburg, WV; and Tom (deceased 2021).

Richard left the cold snowy weather and his work as an electrician in the coal mines of Bolt, WV in 1960, heading for the warm Florida weather. He used his electrical skills to work on McCoy Air Force Base and Cape Canaveral. He then began his career in procurement with Northrup in Florida before being transferred to the Asheville, NC area. His skills in purchasing gained him employment at Stencil Aeronautical; Square D Electrical, BRISCO, and then as the purchasing manager at Schwitzer Turbochargers/Borg Warner Automotive where he retired in April, 2002.

His integrity and work ethic were very much respected by both fellow employees and suppliers in both the U.S. and internationally.

After retirement, he and his wife, Lucy moved to Hilton Head, SC where they often hosted family and friends. He loved walking on the beach, barefoot at the edge of the water, then sitting and watching God's handiwork, the ocean.

Richard was an active member of First Baptist Church, Hilton Head where he served as an usher, and a member of Richard Lewis' Heritage Class. His example of faith, compassion and helping others was inspiring.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Lucy; his children, Richard Jr, Kim; and Ned; his bonus daughters, Michelle and Nicolle; grandchildren; Christina, Alex, Jackson, Makenna, Preston, Dalton, Hailey and Ashley (deceased 2024); and great grandchildren; Emery, Brooklyn, and Jax. His love of his family was powerful and will be greatly missed.

Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2024; 12:00 at First Baptist Church, Hilton Head. A luncheon will follow in the church family life center.

Richard's legacy will live on in the lives of those he touched and he will be remembered always for his unconditional love, devotion and his kind spirit.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Samaritans Purse or the First Baptist Disaster Relief Fund, 100 S. Forest Beach Drive, Hilton Head, SC 29928.
