Scarlett Cockrell Crews
A Celebration of Life July 23, 1947 – October 6, 2024
Known for her medical and gardening skills and her love of people, Scarlett Cockrell Crews brought joy to many. She was born on July 23, 1947, and served God above all others during her multi-faceted life. She gave her life to Christ as a child in her hometown of Jackson, Mississippi and actively served at First Baptist Church in Collierville until her death.
Scarlett Cockrell Crews was a proud scholar who valued education. She was a 1965 graduate of Provine High School in Jackson, Miss., and went on to pursue degrees from the University of Southern Mississippi (1968), Christian Brothers College (1978), St. Joseph School of Nursing (1979), and the University of St. Francis in Joliet, Ill. (1987 and 1991). Scarlett served the City of Memphis for over 40 years as a nurse, nurse administrator, certified legal nurse consultant, and the president of her business, PRN Consulting Firm. She was also the vice president of Healthcare Concepts and an Associate Professor at the University of St. Francis.
Scarlett Cockrell married the love of her life, her best friend, and the man who cherished her the most, Walter E. Crews, on February 22, 1992, and cared for him until his transition in December 2023. Also, preceding Scarlett's death were her parents, Jim Davis and Phyllis Fondern Cockrell, and her only sibling, Dr. Jerald Davis Cockrell.
Scarlett & Walter Crews took responsibility for two teenage grandsons, Hunter and Caleb Crawford, and loved them deeply and unconditionally despite dealing with their own health ailments. Through the blessings of God, Scarlett was so thankful for what she was able to accomplish in their lives with her state of health.
Scarlett Crews leaves two children, close family, and friends to cherish her memories: Sammy Crews (Marcy); Catherine Crawford (Chris); four grandchildren: Hunter Crawford, Caleb Crawford, Bridget Crews, and Millie Crews; God-daughters Carrie Jackson, Mickey McKenny, and Maxine Craig; God-Sisters, Jennifer Hall, Joy Powers, & Juana Reese; Sister in Christ, Brenda Sills; and a Special Cousin, Michael Vincent.
Scarlett Crews was a strong Christian who selflessly used her time and talents to serve her church and loved ones with a tender heart. She was an authentic "Gone with Wind" memorabilia collector, having many one-of-a-kind pieces. She enjoyed gardening (Master Gardener), scuba diving, photography, travel, and, above all, surrounded herself with close friends and family whom she deeply loved.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, October 12 at 10:00 a.m. followed by a graveside service at 11:00 a.m. all at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery.
Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave, Memphis, TN, 38119. (901) 767-8930.

Scarlett was very kind to me and supportive during a difficult time in my life. She gifted me a small book of Cristian insights and biblical quotes and told me she would be praying for me. I appreciated her kindness, understanding and prayers. I am sad to hear that she is gone from us. I add my prayers to the many others in support of her family. I´m sure she is now reunited with her precious Walter and her Christ. Rest in peace, Scarlett.
