Shirley was born on August 4, 1941, in Andrews, IN, to the late Howard and Margaret "Maggie" (Kahlenbeck) Stephan.
Shirley was a 1959 graduate of Andrews High School. She worked at Pyle Industries for many years and was a waitress at Baxter's Restaurant. She lived in West Palm Beach, Florida for a while and worked at a publishing company during that time. She was a member of VFW Ladies Auxiliary #2689 in Huntington and the Ladies Auxiliary Post 248 in Lagro, IN.
Shirley is survived by four children; Jean (Alan) Herd, Homosassa, FL, Ed Fisher, Marion, IN, Tammy (Jeffrey) Pederson, Cottage Grove, MN, Amy (Shane) Austin, Lake Mary, FL; two brothers, Mike (Jean) Stephan, Huntington, IN, Lawrence (Doris) Stephan, Marion, IN; one sister, Sharon Biehl; 6 grandchildren, Heather, Dasha, Carson, Maggie, Brock, Bailey; and 6 great-grandchildren.
Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her life companion, Mike Burton; and three brothers, Mark Stephan, Dennis Stephan, and Henry Stephan.
There will be no services at this time.
A private burial will be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to COPD Foundation in care of McElhaney Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, IN, 46750.
