Terry Kean Walter passed away peacefully on October 8, 2024, in Mount Vernon, Ohio.
The son of Thomas L. and Betty M. (Cherry) Walter, Terry was born in Lancaster, Ohio on July 31, 1949. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Theodore R. Walter.
Terry is survived by his wife of 52 years, Margaret Ann (Smith) Walter. Four children, Kirstin Walter, Matthew (Laura Booth) Walter, Michael (Sam Bartram) Walter and Marcus (Jenny) Walter. His beloved grandchildren, Elizabeth and Dominic Walter and his sister, Betty Lynn Vaughan. Also, his special nieces and nephews, and in-laws Diane and Bruce Arbaugh, Jeff (Becky Lightfritz) Smith, Robin Romano, and Tammy Walter.
Terry was a U.S. Army veteran. He worked for years in management for Anchor Hocking Glass Company in Indiana and MPW in Ohio. In his later years he was the owner of Walter Industrial Services.
When the children were young, he participated in Boy Scouting, soccer coaching and refereeing. After retirement Terry was active in numerous community organizations and non-profit boards in Mount Vernon. In 2016, he received the City of Mount Vernon Volunteer of the Year award. Terry was most proud of his involvement in the Escape Zone Youth Center, the Knox County Learning Center, and the Knox County Military Honor Guard.
Terry enjoyed woodworking, crafting gourds, loved John Wayne movies and westerns. He was funny, generous, and crazy about dogs, especially his Sadie. But most of all he loved being Pa to his grandchildren, attending their ball games and school events, building an ever-expanding tree house, swinging them, and spending time with them.
His passion was helping children, and he firmly believed in the life changing power of "if just one person helped one child".
Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 13, 2024, from 1:00 – 3:00 PM at Snyder Funeral Home-Lasater Chapel, 11337 Upper Gilchrist Rd. in Mount Vernon. Where a celebration of life service will follow at 3:00 PM. Family is observing a private burial in Forest Rose Cemetery in Lancaster, Ohio
Special thanks for the care Terry and the family received from Gentiva Hospice.
