Vanessa Leanne Hammond Wilkins, a beacon of love and joy, departed from this world far too soon on November 27, 2024, in her hometown of Odessa, Texas. Born on December 17, 1982, also in Odessa, Vanessa's vibrant spirit and kind heart touched the lives of all who knew her throughout her 41 years.
Vanessa was a cherished daughter, mother, grandmother, and sister. She was preceded in death by her beloved father, Gilbert L. Hammond, and her paternal grandparents, Albert and Addlene Hammond, as well as her maternal grandparents, Jesse and Bernice Ward. Her memory will be treasured and kept alive by her loving boyfriend, Chris Bright; her four adored children, Jasmine Stevens, Paige Wilkins, Hadin Wilkins, and Gaige Wilkins; her devoted mother, Alma Salge; her caring stepfather, Woody; and her sisters, Mary Searle "David" and Tammi Cline "Kenny." Vanessa's stepsister, Kristina Lively "Jack," and stepbrother, Woody Salge ''Saelena'', also survive her. Each family member reflects a facet of Vanessa's love and legacy.
Vanessa's zest for life was evident in her passions. She loved to sing and dance, embracing the joy of music and movement. Her love for tattoos was more than skin deep, as each piece of ink told a story of her life and experiences. Coloring was not just a pastime for Vanessa; it was an expression of her creativity and a way to share moments of tranquility. Known for her playful spirit, she often gave her mother a hard time, a testament to their close and endearing relationship. Vanessa's love for her animals showcased her nurturing soul, and these cherished creatures provided her with comfort and companionship.
Those who knew Vanessa will remember her as the epitome of loving, kind, and friendly. She had the rare ability to light up a room with her warmth and to make everyone feel welcomed and valued. Her laughter was infectious, and her presence was a source of comfort to many.
Vanessa's life was a tapestry woven with the love of her family, the joy of her interests, and the impact of her generous spirit. Her children, the center of her world, will carry forward her legacy of kindness and compassion. The moments spent with Vanessa-whether in song, dance, or playful teasing-will be cherished and held in the hearts of her loved ones forever.
As we bid farewell to Vanessa Leanne Wilkins Hammond, we celebrate the life of a woman who was much more than the sum of her years. Her spirit, a radiant light that will continue to guide and inspire, leaves a lasting imprint on the world. Vanessa's journey on earth may have concluded, but the stories of her love and the echoes of her laughter will resonate for generations to come.
Vanessa's life was a beautiful melody, a song of love and kindness that will be sung by those who loved her for eternity. As we mourn her passing, we also honor the profound joy and friendship she brought into our lives. Vanessa, you will be profoundly missed, but never forgotten.
A Memorial will be held at Westover Baptist church on December 17, 2024 at 2:00pm.
