He was baptized Oct. 19, 1941, at Grace Lutheran Church in Fayette. He attended fifth through eighth grade at St. Peter Lutheran Parochial School in Westgate. On March 25, 1956, he was confirmed at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Westgate. His confirmation and favorite verse was John 10:27-28. In 1960, he graduated from West Central High School in Maynard. George proudly served in the United States Army from December of 1960 to October of 1963, where he served at Fort Hood, Texas and 14 months in Korea. On Dec. 29, 1963, he was united in marriage to Janice Kay Hoehne at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Westgate. George was employed at Donaldson Company in Oelwein from 1960 until their closing in 2000. While working at Donaldson's, George also farmed in the Maynard area until 2022.
He was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Westgate, where he held various offices. George was also a member of the Messerer-Fox American Legion Post #92 of Westgate. While George was two years older, he was one grade ahead of me through grade school and high school, yet we shared athletic adventures on soft ball, baseball, basketball and football teams in Westgate and Maynard high school. Always a low key person who doggedly went about the business of being an accomplished team mate. What I hold endearingly about George is his low drama and polite demeanor. Rest in peace my friend!
