Daniel F. Bustard, 58, of Scarborough, passed away at his home on June 24, 2024. He was born in Presque Isle, Maine on March 21, 1966, son to the late Frederick and Marrena (Carlson) Bustard.
Daniel was a quiet and reserved man who enjoyed simple things. He was an avid reader, a New England sports teams’ enthusiast and enjoyed taking daily walks around the neighborhood.
A man of few words in person, however, when he put pen to paper that was a different story; no pun intended. A talented and passionate journalist who began his reporting career while in college - he cut his teeth as a sports editor for the school paper in Orono. This field brought him purpose, freedom and great joy.
Daniel is survived by his sister, Karen Crandall (Clair); brother, Joseph Bustard (Lisa Ingraham); nephews, Matthew Crandall (Nichole), Drew Crandall (Maia); niece Rachel Griffith (Jeffrey); grand-nephews, Carter Crandall and Luke Griffith; grand-niece, Norah Crandall as well as many extended family members and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 11am-1pm on Monday, July 1, 2024 at Hobbs Funeral Home, South Portland. Burial will take place in Black Point Cemetery, Scarborough immediately following.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a memorial contribution in Daniel’s name are asked to consider the American Diabetes Association https://diabetes.org/ways-to-give

I worked with Dan for many years at WGME in Portland. He was a kind, reserved soul who will be missed

A great neighborhood friend. We played a lot of basketball with your brother Joe and the rest of the Mantle Lake Group up in PI. Rest easy my friend. Sending my deepest sympathies to the family.

He was a really good sportswriter out here in New Hampshire, I went to High School with him and was not surprised to see that he wound up doing what he loved. Dan had an understated sense of humor and was a great all around guy. I'm sorry to hear this, Best to his family.
