Connie Croy Obituary

Connie Ray Croy

November 23, 1941 - May 13, 2025

Connie Ray Croy, 83, of Salem, Va., passed away on Tuesday, May 13, 2025.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Garvin and Jewel Croy; and brother and sister-in-law, L.D. and Betty Croy.

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Barbara Adkins Croy. Missing the most wonderful Dad ever, he is survived by daughters, Lynn Croy and Karen Woody (Hal); son, Dougie Croy (Kim); grandchildren, Amanda Taylor (Matt), Kalley Fechko (George), Cory Thompson, and Brandon Croy (April); great-grandchildren, Nolan, Adalyn, Parker, Analise, and "soon to be here" Barrett. He is also survived by sisters, Moggie Shepherd (Bruce) and Clara Linkous (R.E.); brother, Randy Croy (Pam); and a special nephew, Dean Shepherd.

Connie was born in McCoy, Va., and it was there that he met his beautiful bride at a very young age. He worked for Norfolk and Western / Norfolk Southern and retired at age 60. He was "Pop" to dozens of children who Barb babysat in their home. His love and devotion to his family was undeniable. Anyone who knew Connie was blessed to have such a friend. The hundreds of lives he touched and even more than that he has helped along the way will carry on his legacy forever.

In the end, Pop continued to be our Superman that he had always been. He gave God all the glory for giving him the strength to carry on even when he was weak. He made sure his family, especially Barb, were provided for and loved beyond measure. He raised his children to be strong and independent and to always do right in the eyes of God. He doted on his great-grandchildren. Rest in peace, Pop. It's not goodbye; we will see you later.

Family and friends will visit from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, May 19, 2025, in the John M. Oakey & Son Chapel in Salem, Va. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m., on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, also in the chapel, with Rev. Mike Flinchum and Rev. Taylor Plott officiating. The interment will follow at 2 p.m., at the McCoy Family Cemetery in Blacksburg, Va.
