Margaret Stoots Obituary

Margaret L. Stoots

June 29, 1950 - May 18, 2025

Margaret Irwin Leggett "Peggy" Stoots, 74, of Cloverdale, Va. entered into God's Kingdom peacefully on Sunday, May 18, 2025, after several months of health issues. She was preceded in death by her mother, Isabelle Fraser Wilson Leggett; her father, Noah Hunter "Ted" Leggett; and her brother, John Goodridge "Goodie" Leggett.

She leaves behind her husband of 45 years, Eugene Edward "Ed" Stoots Jr.; her son, Christopher John "Chris" Stoots and fiancée Cheyenne Aisling "Chey" Snyder of Salem, Va.; her sister, Susan Leggett "Sousin" Cottrell and husband, Kenneth Davis "Ken" Cottrell Jr. of Clarksville, Va.; two nephews, Charles Hunter "Charlie" Leggett and wife, Erin Catherine Leggett of Lawrenceville, Ga.; and Justin Garner Leggett of Gainesville, Ga.; as well as many extended family members and faithful friends.

A celebration of her life will be held at later date.

She was a loyal wife, a loving mother, and a dedicated sister. She took joy in all of God's children, and invested her time in care and kindness to disenfranchised youth.

To Ed and Chris -- You have my heartfelt sympathy at this very sad time. Keep those happiest of your memories made together close at hand and know that I am thinking of you. My earliest memories of Cousin Margaret were from their home in Alexandria, VA. She always had a way with animals and most often there were kittens to be found in the woodpile and an assortment of her other pets inside. The most memorable of these were the flying squirrels who, in the evening, would climb to the top of the living room drapes and launch themselves across the room. I always looked forward to our visits and to the family meals with all of us gathered together at the table sharing stories and laughing.
