Celia Grossomanides Obituary

WESTERLY Celia (Vasiliki) Grossomanides, aged 96, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 6th , 2025, in Westerly, RI. Born on August 16th ,1928, in Webster, MA and she was the daughter of the late Panagioti and Sophie Natsis.

Celia was a dedicated mother and wife, highly respected for her caring and kind nature. Celia graduated from Barlett High School in the Class of 1946 and upon graduating from High School she attended professional secretarial school Worcester, MA.

She was employed at the Bates Shoe Company (Webster, MA), Richmond-Lace Company (Richmond, RI) and River Bend Cemetery where she was an institution for 53 years as a secretary, administrative assistant and historian retiring in 2020 at the age of 91.

Celia was involved in her community and loved her Greek Orthodox faith. She was a member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Norwich, CT, she sang in the choir and was a member of Agape Chapter Ladies Philoptochos Society and Daughters of Penelope Lysandros Chapter #181. In addition, Celia sang in the choir of St. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Webster, MA. where she was also the church secretary.

Celia leaves behind her loving son Dr. John Grossomanides and daughter-in-law Anna-Helene, along with her nieces Sophia, Maria, Marcia, Elaine, Kathy, and nephews George, Costas, Steve and Clifford, many in-laws and large extended family. She will deeply be missed by all. She was predeceased in death by her Husband John G. (LT Col. Ret), her parents and brother Father Stavros Natsis.

The Grossomanides family will greet relatives and friends Thursday February 13 th from 2-4 pm & 5-8 pm Buckler Johnston Funeral Home in Westerly, RI. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, February 14 th , at 10:00 A.M. at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Norwich, CT followed by the burial at Riverbend Cemetery in Westerly, RI.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church Endowment Fund in Norwich, CT, honoring Celia's memory and her commitment to her faith.
