Horan, Richard Holt
DARIEN - Richard Holt Horan died peacefully, with his family by his side, in Connecticut, on February 17, 2024. Rich was born on July 6, 1947, in Troy, N.Y., the son of Dr. William H. Horan Jr. and Virginia Holt Horan. He attended Albany Academy in Albany, N.Y., and college at Bucknell University and St. John Fisher. Rich relocated to Campbell, Calif., where he married Judith Simonton in Los Gatos, Calif., on October 29, 1983, and had one child, Patrick H. Horan. They relocated to Delmar, N.Y., in 1995. Rich is survived by his son, Patrick; daughter-in-law, Lily; and grandchildren, Harrison and Emilia Horan of Darien, Conn. He is also survived by his brother, Peter (Corlene) Horan of Los Gatos, Calif.; and his sister, Cecily (Carey) O'Laughlin of Jupiter, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews, Andrew, Ashley, and Peter Laughlin, Tyler Horan, Biff Horan, Meghan Stapleton, Courtney Perez, and Christopher Horan.
Rich was preceded in death by his wife, Judith Simonton Horan; his parents, Dr. William Horan and Virginia Horan Fitzgibbons; and his brother, William Horan.
Rich was a very kind and thoughtful person with a tireless work ethic. He loved the outdoors and participated in sports throughout his life. He was an avid skier and golfer from his early childhood into recent years, and even helped teach his grandchildren to ski at young ages. He and Judy were very involved in Patrick's life at every stage. They loved entertaining Patrick's friends and their families and opened their home and hearts to them. He and Judy loved traveling to visit family and friends throughout the country, and welcoming them into their home. Rich treasured his grandchildren, Harry (six) and Emilia (three), visiting them in Conn., often.
Rich was a warm and loving man, and will be dearly missed by all of those who cared so much for him. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Pius X Church in Loudonville, N.Y., on Saturday, March 2, at 11:30 a.m., followed by a reception at Fort Orange Club, in Albany. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Heart Association.

The world has said farewell to a kind, warm, loving, gentle man with an incredible wit and sense of humor. I´m glad and grateful for the times we shared in our youth in Boothbay Harbor...ah, the good `ol days!

My brother Rich left us too soon. I have lots of memories from our working together in Vermont to California where we were room-mates. While I joined the Navy, Rich and stayed to work until he married Judy and eventually moved back to Albany. All the memories... I found a few old family pictures one from 1957 another from about 1978 and his graduation from college with our mother Virginia.
Rest in peace Rich. You are a great brother, not to be forgotten.

Rich was a warm and easy going person. Very likeable! We were in the same football team at the Albany Academy. He was a wide receiver and I was a running back. I still remember throwing him a pass in the end zone. Hopefully he caught it! I was on the ground and couldn't see what happened.
A great guy! I'm sure he is in a good place in the beyond. My condolences and best wishes to his family.

It is with profound sadness that I learned of Rich´s passing. He was a friend and classmate at The Albany Academy and I will always be in awe of his broad and strong shoulders always thankful that we were on the same football team and the same side of the ball. Rich was a kind, soft spoken man with a wonderful sense of humor. I extend to the entire family my sympathy and condolences with the surety that memories of his life with you and his many friends will help him live forever in our hearts.
