QUEENSBURY—Marcellus “Marcelly Jelly” Cesar Herman passed away at his home on Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at the age of three and a half.
He was born on January 22, 2021 in Batavia, N.Y. with a genetic disorder called CYFIP-2. He was a brave little man, fighting multiple seizures that took many of his physical abilities away, but he always kept his spunk. The nurses and doctors at Golisano’s Children’s hospital were the best care team he could have had, and they loved him just the same. They helped him fight as long as he could, for his disease has no control or cure.
Marcellus is the son of Trinity Herman and Dominick Holmes. Mom and Dad have diligently cared for and loved little Marcellus each and every day, pursuing as many therapies and new treatments to help him be more comfortable in life. There are only a few hundred cases of his disorder, and he was the only little guy with his specific variation of it.
Marcellus loved listening to music and dancing only to Taylor Swift and Gracie’s Corner, playing his favorite duck game and watching his dad play video games. He enjoyed being wrapped up in his favorite blankets, playing with his stuffed animals, and anything to do with dinosaurs. He had a strong personality for only three years old! He was a funny kid, always playing jokes on people. He absolutely loved food, no matter what it was he wanted a bite of it, even veggies!
Marcellus is survived by his parents; maternal grandparents, April South-Bannin (Texas), Andrew Saunders Sr. (Fort Edward, N.Y.), and paternal grandparents, Amy and Jason Herman (Medina, N.Y.); pets, Kratos and Atreus; along with many aunts, uncles, and cousins. His favorite uncle was his uncle Dubou and he loved him so much, he would be very upset when he could not talk to him. He also is survived by a baby sister that is due in October.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate his special life on Thursday, July 18 from 1 to 5 p.m. at Queensbury Central Fire House, 17 Lafayette Street, Queensbury, NY 12804.
In memory of Marcellus, donations to Golisano Children’s Neurology team, 601 Elmwood Ave., Rochester, NY 14642, DONATE, would be lovely, in the hopes that they find a way to help littles like Marcellus.
Condolences may be sent directly to Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette Street, Queensbury, N.Y. 12804.
