Beverly Mose Smith, 93, of Port Byron, IL died on December 13th at The Vistas at Bettendorf in Bettendorf, IA. A visitation was held Monday December 16th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Gibson-Bode Funeral Home, Port Byron. Funeral services were Tuesday December 17th at 11:00 a.m. at Bethel Baptist Church in Port Byron. Burial was in the Pleasant Point Cemetery also in Port Byron. Memorials may be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
Beverly was born March 8, 1931 on the family farm in Port Byron, IL to Walter J. Mose Sr. and Florence J. (Enright) Mose. She graduated from Port Byron High School and attended Augustana College then transferring to Western Illinois University to complete her degree in Elementary Education. Bev married Melvin Smith on June 27th, 1953 at Fairfield Methodist Church in Port Byron. She began her teaching career at Coe Township Elementary School and continued on teaching at Grant Park, IL, Lockport, IL and Rochelle, IL.
Growing up, Bev was a member of Fairfield Methodist Church, later she became a member of the Methodist Church in Rochelle, IL and since moving back to Port Byron she has attended Bethel Baptist Church in Port Byron. She enjoyed gardening, was an accomplished seamstress, liked playing the piano, attending live sporting events and loved going to the Quad Cities Storm hockey games. She loved traveling by car and seeing the country with her family and was especially devoted to her grandchildren.
Beverly was survived by her two children, Jeffrey M. (Juli) Smith, Port Byron, Betsy S. (Charles) Schumacher, New Albany, OH; grandchildren, Michael P. Smith (Josie Goode-Smith), Nicole A. Smith, Jennette R. Smith, Bo Schumacher, Henry Schumacher and Isaak Schumacher; as well as beloved grand dogs, Daisy, Daphne, Bova and Barklie.
