John Bowles Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, JOHN GORDON BOWLES who left us on February 6, 2025, in Ormand Beach, Florida at the age of 92, surrounded by family in his final moments. John was born on May 24, 1932, in Paradise, West Virginia to parents Floyd and Launa Bowles.
While employed at North American Aviation in Columbus, Ohio, John was drafted into the U.S. Army in December 1952. He served two tours in West Germany and Korea and one tour in Vietnam. He retired from the U.S. Army in 1973 then entered civil service, retiring in 1995.
John's passion for his family, fishing, woodworking, landscaping and his generous, energetic, sweet unwavering spirit will be remembered by all who knew him. His secret to longevity was to never sit down and to keep moving!
He is survived by his son, John G. Bowles Jr. (Debra); daughters, Claire Morris, Joan Bowles, Nancy Bowles, Kathy Bowles Culbertson (Harold); sisters, Gloria Whittington, Monna Rollins and Judy Bonecutter; grandsons, Tye Decker, Jonathan Overstreet, Steven Bailey, Michael Bailey, Stephen Duke, James Duke, Joshua Duke and David Duke; granddaughters, Stephanie McConahy, Patty Duke, Amber Ramella; special in-laws, John and Wanda Perkins, Donna and Tim Stickrod and Jane Boggess. John is also survived by many cherished great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Linda Bowles; parents, Floyd and Launa Bowles; brothers, Gene Bowles and Bill Bowles; daughter, Debra Davis and son-in-law, Johnny Morris.
The family will receive friends from 5 - 7 p.m. on Monday, February 17, 2025 at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard.
Interment will be private in Sunset Memorial Park.
