Joan Egan Obituary
For our Light of the Moon, Joan Patricia Egan
Patti Egan entered the physical realm in the year of the earth tiger on July 15th, 1938 in San Diego California and returned to the stars March 10th, 2026.
As the second child of three children of Ann LaForbise and Gerald (Sandy) Egan, she shone brightly at a very young age. She held her own with her older brother, Gerald Francis Jr. and in 1942, the family moved to Dunlap Iowa where little sister Katherine Rose was born and quickly became the apple of Patti's eye.
Patti grew up in Dunlap where at the age of 4, she met Colette Grote who would become her life-long best friend and companion.
After graduating high school in Dunlap, Patti and Colette moved to Omaha Nebraska experiencing a year of big city adventures and started a budding modeling career. Patti met her future husband, Edward (Punjie) Sefic at a dance. He often recalled that she was "a stunning beauty". They were married in Balboa Park, San Diego. She and Punjie then moved to Camp LaJeune North Carolina where their first child, Venus Antoinette, was born and later returned to Omaha. In Omaha, Pattie and Punjie had three more children; Edward Egan, Damon Prescott, and Aleta Maria.
After the birth of her youngest child, Patti single-handedly took on the role of parenting and raising her children with fierce love and incredible strength. She mothered with devotion and was a constant and exceptional provider. There was always fun, learning, and delicious food cooking in the kitchen. She loved unconditionally.
In 1970, she moved her children to Ft. Walton Beach Florida and in 1973, moved again to Denver Colorado, where she had always wanted to live.
Patti developed into a remarkable woman. She was passionate about her family, friends, plants, gardening, artistry, animals, books, celebrations of any kind, singing and dancing. She loved to travel. She had trips with her children to every state in the continental United States as well as Hawaii, Australia, Mexico, Canada, Papua New Guinea, and India.
Patti was a peerless story teller and could entertain any crowd with her colorful experiences, her deep knowledge of world history, and her tales of imagination and whimsy.
She loved children and became a devoted grandmother to Damon's children and grandchildren Jessica, Skyler, Angelique, Elvis, Simon, Sapphire, Scarlet, Sterling, Sawyer, Salem, Malina, and Maris. And to Edward's child and grandchildren Edward IV, Quinton, and Stella. And to Aleta's children Bernadette, Veronica, and Phelix.
In Patti's final years, when her health was failing, she was surrounded by love. Her daughter-in-law Sarah and son Damon provided tender, 24 hour care that made her last years happy and comfortable at home. She was funny and full of her sparkling personality to the very end.
Towards the end of her colorful life, Patti told her daughter Venus that death was close and she saw it. When asked what death looked like, she said it was a playground full of little children, playing, and beautiful flowers everywhere. "We were all running."
Patti will always be our Mom, our Mumzie, our Moon Magic, our Queen of the Universe, our Light of the Moon. She was Mama Zis to her grandchildren.
Patti is also survived by her beloved sister Kathy, her son-in-law Michael Best and daughter-in-law Gina Scott as well as many nieces and nephews who adored her.
Patti will be laid to rest in Dunlap Iowa, next to her best friend Colette and near her mother, father, brother and grandmother.
