Paul Timm Obituary

Paul Wayne Timm, 86, of Grover, Colorado, was blessed to meet Jesus face to face on January 8, 2026, after surviving many years with congestive heart failure.

He was born March 23, 1939, to Gertrude Inez (Rhoads) and Ferdinand Arnold (F.A.) Timm in Carpenter, Wyoming. In reality, he was born at home on the family homestead four miles east and one south of Hereford, Colorado. Doc Morris of Pine Bluffs, Wyoming, was able to charge a lower delivery rate for babies delivered in Wyoming, so Paul was "born" in Carpenter.

Paul was the youngest of four brothers and four sisters. During his teenage years he worked with his brothers and dad operating a custom harvest crew. His farm duties began at a young age though, and included holding the cows' tails while his mom did the milking. A poignant childhood memory was in the '49 blizzard when he witnessed the static electricity spark from shingle nail to shingle nail on his bedroom ceiling.

While living on the Hereford farm, Paul attended first through fourth grades at Hereford School before he and his school age siblings moved to Grover with his parents. He completed school there graduating in 1957. He spent hours in the gym and on the baseball field with his town and country friends. This group of boys formed formidable basketball, baseball and six-man football teams. Paul, or Slick, as he was known, was the starting pitcher when Grover won the second of their four consecutive state baseball championships from 1956-1959.

In high school he met the love of his life Louanne Hallock who graduated in 1956. Both attended Colorado State College, now the University of Northern Colorado. They married December 14, 1958, in Greeley. Paul graduated with a BA in Physical Education in 1961. The couple then moved west of Grover to where Louanne had spent the majority of her childhood. Paul taught school in Grover and coached sports for several years while also working with his father and mother-in-law, Cedric and Marian Hallock, in running the dryland farming and ranching operation. Paul enjoyed the cowboying part of ranching and was happy to help his neighbors with their cattle work as well. Team roping with his friends and family became one of his hobbies.

He served his community as a board member of the Friendship Alliance Church as well as serving on the Crow Valley Livestock Association board. Thanks to Louanne, he also volunteered many hours at the Grover Depot Museum.

Paul was a talented and creative man with varied interest, adept with power and hand tools. Crafting barnwood frames and bits and spurs for many years brought him a proud satisfaction. Throughout his life, Paul thoroughly enjoyed playing cards and cribbage with family and neighbors. After their retirement he and Louanne transformed their home into the West Pawnee Ranch Bed and Breakfast which they operated for 25 years. He became an avid bird watcher in this season of his life.

During their 66 years on the prairie, he and Louanne raised a son and daughter who ultimately joined the ranching operation with their spouses and raised their families near him. He found intense joy in his four grandchildren and supporting them in their endeavors, although being with them was what he liked best. He absolutely adored all three of his great-grandchildren.

Paul spent 85 of his 86 years in the Grover-Hereford area before health issues necessitated a move for he and Louanne to assisted living. He settled in nicely at Columbine Commons in Windsor, Colorado. While there he took in every card game and activity as well as spending hours working puzzles.

Paul is preceded in death by his parents and in laws; sisters Elona (Toni) Haskins and husband Ed, Frances (Fran) Thompson and husband Henry (Hank), Gertrude (Gertie) Holmes and husband William (Bill), brother (Sonny) Joe Timm and wife Gladys, brother-in-law Boyd Bivens, sister-in-law Helen Timm, nephews Ron Bivens and Arland Timm. He is survived by his wife Louanne, son Scott (Stephanie) Timm of Grover; daughter Tanya (Jeff) Wahlert of Grover; grand and great-grandchildren Tasha (Jorge) Chacon of Dodge City, Kansas; Trent (Sierra) Timm of Laramie, Wyoming; Ross (Josi) Wahlert, Kinsey and Nellie of Grover; Owen (Shelby) Wahlert and Lucas of Grover. Paul is also survived by his sister Lillian Bivens of Loveland, Colorado, brothers Verl Timm of Sterling, Colorado, and Al (Dorothy) Timm, Ft. Collins, Colorado; a great-grandson due in April and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at the Pawnee School gym in Grover, Colorado, Friday, January 16, at 11:00 am. Interment at the Home of Peace cemetery, Grover, and dinner will follow the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Pawnee Historical Society or the Earl Anderson Memorial Rodeo.
