It is with deep sorrow that we announce the unexpected passing of Sharon (Sherri) June Bauer (Hopp) on April 6, 2026, at age 76 In Maricopa County, Arizona.
Sherri was born the sixth of seven children on June 2, 1949, in
Longmont, Colorado to the late Frieda and Conrad Hopp. Growing up on the farm, Sherri was surrounded with faith, family, good food, imaginative play and holiday traditions. These things would become defining characteristics of her career in teaching and as her own family's matriarch.
At a young age Sherri knew she was meant to be a teacher. She attended Northeastern Junior College and completed her Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from the University of Northern Colorado in 1971. Sherri was a one-of-a-kind teacher for 33 years. She taught mainly in District 6 in Greeley as an elementary teacher. Sherri loved her school children almost like her own, wrote curriculum, mentored other teachers and went above and beyond as an educator in every way. She would often receive graduation and wedding invitations as well as phone calls and letters from grown former students showing appreciation for how her love and guidance shaped their lives.
Sherri married the love of her life, Fred Bauer, on June 29, 1969. Together they raised two daughters, Katie (Westphal) and Sarah (Baessler). Dedicated to each other, Fred and Sherri were a true example of faith and love in action. They danced through life together for nearly 55 years until Fred passed on May 16, 2024. They will continue that dance in Heaven by their deep faith in Jesus Christ.
Sherri's greatest achievements, in her own words, were her family. Known as Mimi to her grandchildren, Sherri was a devoted mother and grandmother. Famous for her holiday traditions, hosting Sunday dinners, praying unceasingly for her family, her meatloaf and playing like she, herself, was a kid. Sherri left a legacy of faith and love written on the hearts of her family.
Sherri was as true a friend as she was a wife, mother and grandmother. She loved Bible studies with her friends, golf, having them over for dinner or drinks on her patio, and was always praying for their families. She is leaving many dear friends here in the Eaton and Greeley area as well as her second home in Arizona.
Sherri was preceded in death by her parents Conrad and Frieda Hopp; her husband, Fred Bauer; her brothers, Kenneth (Kenny) Hopp, Paul Hopp, and John Hopp; sister-in-law, Sherry Bauer; and beloved nephews, William (Bill) Hopp, and Austin Hopp.
She is survived by her daughters, Katie (Brandon) Westphal, and Sarah (Jamie) Baessler; her grandchildren, Avery Westphal, Emery Baessler, Isabella Baessler, and Elianna Baessler; her brothers, Conrad (Martha) Hopp, and Walt (Char) Hopp; her sister, Sandi (Fred) Nelson; sister-in-law, Janice (Paul) Hopp; brothers-in-law, Dave (Dianne) Bauer, and Jerry (Jeanie) Bauer; sisters-in-law, Mariann (Bauer) Miller, and Darla Bauer ;as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and dear friends.
