Thomas Benson Obituary

Thomas Radford Benson died on December 17, 2025, in Denton, Texas. Born in Geneva, Illinois, on July 18, 1947 to Ted and MaryLou Benson, his family moved to Colorado Springs in 1951.

Tom attended Colorado Springs Public Schools; in high school he joined sports teams and excelled in track events. After graduation, he attended CSU for a year, before travelling to New Hampshire to work in construction.

Tom moved back to Colorado and enjoyed living in a supportive community that shared his interests. During this time, Tom returned to school and completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs. After graduation, Tom enjoyed the job of editor for a few years at the The Center-Post Dispatch in Monte-Vista, Colorado.

Tom returned to school at Texas Tech to earn his Master's Degree in Special Education, with an emphasis on improving student reading skills. While working as a reading specialist in the Little Elm School District in Texas, Tom spent many years at Chavez Elementary.

Tom enjoyed taking long walks, and talking about the mysteries of the universe, the meaning of life, and exploring his and his friends' inner life. Those conversations will be sorely missed.

Tom's family wishes to thank each person who enriched Tom's life over his many years. Tom was grateful for steadfast friends, as well as the love and support of family. He enjoyed life.

The majesty of the natural world inspired Tom every day. Rather than a memorial service, Tom has chosen to have his ashes scattered in Colorado and Texas.
