Thomas Edward (Tim) Welker, 77, was born May 17, 1946, and died November 9. 2023. He grew up in North Canton, Ohio, the third child of Homer and Mildred (Harbart) Welker. In high school, he was lucky enough to be seated in front of a pretty redhead in American History. Their friendship blossomed into a romance, and Tim and Julie Ann Weller married in 1968, and had two sons, Matt and Doug. Tim graduated from Colorado State University and went on to a two-year executive training program at Goodwill Industries. After working in the Lubbock, Texas Goodwill, he served as executive for Goodwill Industries for Denver and northern Colorado, a position he held for 33 years.
Tim was a man of indelible kindness and generosity, with a sly sense of humor which delighted his family and friends. He loved Julie and his kids, and his siblings Dave and Joan, and was a wise friend to his nieces after their father's early passing. He loved driving in the mountains with family, taking the most rugged roads to the top, and was a vigorous walker and hiker, his dog always at his side. Tim showed a rare talent for photography, catching the details of flowers, mountain vistas and urban skylines. Tim and Julie traveled to Europe, South America and Australia, and Tim ventured to Antarctica with his father-in-law. He and Julie made many friends in Goodwill and in their investment club, and Tim and several friends drove to Omaha each year to hear Warren Buffett speak.
Tim is survived by his wife Julie, his sons, his sister Joan, sister-in-law Sue and nieces and nephews Linda, Kathy, Karen, Amy, Jim, Lorrie, Tammy and Jeff, and cousin Paul Foster and his wife Beverly. Thanks to nieces Kathy Clarkson and Karen Welsh for their many hours at Tim's bedside in the last weeks, and to the staff at Collier Hospice for their compassion and outstanding care for Tim and family.
The memorial service for Tim will be held on Tuesday, November 28 at 11 a.m. at Arvada United Methodist Church at 6750 Carr Street, Arvada. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Goodwill of Colorado, Collier Hospice of Wheat Ridge, CO, or a charity of choice. A light luncheon will be served afterwards.
