David Lee Norton, a devoted husband, father, and Papa, passed away on September 1, 2025, at the age of 71. Born on August 2, 1954, in Canby, Minnesota, to Archie and Elenora Norton, Dave was the youngest of two children. In 1959, his family relocated to Englewood, Colorado, where he spent his formative years.
Dave attended All Souls and St. Louis Catholic schools and graduated from Englewood High School in 1972. On January 20, 1973, he married his high school sweetheart, Cherrlyn Kay Heimer, and together they had two daughters, Tanya and Stephanie. The couple's entrepreneurial spirit led them to purchase the gutter portion of Alpine Heating & Air Conditioning in 1977, which they transformed into Alpine Gutters and Downspouts Inc. Under Dave's guidance, the company became a trusted and reputable name in the Denver Metro Area. After decades of hard work, Dave and Cherrlyn retired from the gutter business in December 2023.
Dave's passion for fastpitch softball was ignited when his oldest daughter, Tanya, started playing for the Columbine Sports Association. He went on to coach both of his daughters for 15 years, making a lasting impact on their lives and the lives of many other young athletes. Football was another one of Dave's passions, and he coached Pee Wee football for two years, leading the Mean Green team to two Carnation Bowl Championship wins.
Dave's greatest delight was watching his two grandsons take to the field, court, and gridiron, playing baseball, basketball, and flag football. The sheer joy he felt in those moments was unmistakable, as his face would light up with an enormous smile that radiated his pride and love for his grandsons. The thrill of witnessing their passions and talents unfold was a source of immense happiness for Dave, and his grandsons brought him a sense of joy that was unparalleled.
Those who knew Dave would describe him as a humble, generous, kind, honest, loyal, and loving individual. He was a devoted family man, always putting the needs of his loved ones first. One of his greatest joys was becoming a Papa, and he cherished every moment spent with his two grandsons, Tanner and Travis. Dave's selflessness and dedication to his family were inspiring, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Dave is preceded in death by his parents, Archie and Elenora Norton. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Cherrlyn; his daughters, Tanya (Ruffus) and Stephanie (Russ); his grandsons, Tanner and Travis; and his brother, Alan.
A memorial service celebrating Dave's life will be held on September 12, 2025, at 10:00 am at Horan and McConaty (5303 E. County Line Road, Centennial, CO 80122). Interment will follow at Seven Stones Chatfield (9635 N. Rampart Range Road, Littleton, CO 80125), with a reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Dave's memory to the Parkinson's Association of the Rockies.
