Dennis James Hlavinka, beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, colleague and friend. He was born on March 25, 1946 in East Bernard, Texas. Dennis peacefully passed away in his home surrounded by family in Arvada, Colorado on March 13, 2026.
He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Jamie Hlavinka whose memory he carried in his heart every day. Her loss was profound, yet his love for her shaped the rest of his life.
Dennis was also preceded in death by his parents Joe W. Hlavinka and Lillie Hlavinka as well as his brother Mark Hlavinka, sister Joanne Hlavinka, and brother in-laws Grady Robertson and Al Miller.
Dennis is survived by his wife Mickey Hlavinka, daughter Joey Fanale, son Dan Hlavinka, son-in-law Chris Fanale, daughter in-law Chelsea Woodward and grandchildren Jacob, Azimae, Maddox, Abba and Bob.
Dennis pursued his love of learning by earning a bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University, followed by a master’s degree from the University of Texas. He proudly served as a First Lieutenant in the United States Army in Huntsville Alabama and South Korea.
Dennis spent 49 years at the same company as a biomedical engineer, where he and his team developed medical advancements that saved countless lives. His passion for his work was matched only by his devotion to his family. Dennis was married to Mickey for 57 wonderful years. He devoted himself wholeheartedly to raising their three children, guiding them with love and wisdom. Later, he cherished his five grandchildren, teaching them work ethic, love of country music and devotion to family.
Though a proud Texan at heart, Dennis loved living in Colorado, where he spent countless hours fly fishing, cooking, 4-wheeling, gardening, and playing guitar.
Dennis will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all whose lives he deeply touched.
The Celebration of Life will be on April 16, 2026 at 10:30am at St Joan of Arc. 12735 W. 58th Ave, Arvada, Colorado 80002. Following the Memorial Mass, inurnment will take place 12pm, at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery, 12801 W. 44th Avenue in Wheat Ridge, CO.
