With a heavy heart we are sad to announce Louann Eakins Nelson, 94, born April 3, 1931, transitioned peacefully on December 30, 2025. A Denver native, she attended High School at St. Mary’s Academy and later studied art at the University of Denver, where she was a member of Delta Gamma. She truly loved her country and was a proud member of the Young Republicans, attending two national conventions as a delegate. While raising 5 children she enjoyed a successful career with Megapolitan Mortgage Company. Throughout her life, she exemplified strength and independence, living her Catholic faith with devotion to God.
Louann was instrumental in the success of the Denver St. Patrick’s Day Parade, where she joyfully served for over 50 years and was honored as Secretary Emeritus. Louann thoroughly enjoyed participating in many aspects of the event with her Irish friends, often over a drink and a loud Irish toast. A faithful supporter of Little Sisters of the Poor with an unwavering love for cats, she was the eternal optimist who often reminded others, “Everything will work out the way it’s supposed to.”
She enjoyed travel, genealogy, history, movies, and collecting art. Louann was quick-witted with an amazing sense of humor and lovable personality. She often ended comments with a slight smirk and mischievous glance. She very much loved her family, and as its rock, our matriarch will be deeply missed and forever loved.
Louann was preceded in death by her parents, James M. Eakins and Laura M. Hemple; her siblings James Paul Eakins, Tommy J. Eakins, and Shirley M. Ellerby; and former husband Vernon H. Nelson. She is survived by her children Steve (Ellen), Sheryl, Ronnie, Renee (Kelly), Eric and her beloved cat, Griff.
