Marcia Susanne "Susy" Tope Cushman was born February 17, 1942 in
Denver, Colorado, the second
child of George and Louise Tope. She was welcomed home by her older brother, Doug.
Susy graduated from South High School in Denver in 1959. Not long after, she met the love of her life,
Owen Robert "Bob" Cushman. They were wed on February 12, 1961, and to this union, 2 sons were born;
Michael & David.
Susy had a great love for helping anyone she could, and she was known for her involvement in many
organizations and clubs throughout the years. She proudly served the youth as an influential 4-H Leader,
and was instrumental in the startup and success of the 'Franktown Dudes' (later on the 'Douglas County
Dudes') 4-H Club, earning her the well-deserved 'Leader-of-the-Year' award. She was also known to help
with the High School Marching band, in which her sons were a part of. She was an excellent bowler and
even traveled for many years with the bowling club.
Susy was a devoted member of the Hill Top Social Club for over 60 years; one of the oldest
serving members in its history. She served as President for many years and held countless fundraisers for
the Social Club including bake sales, rummage sales and several cookbooks, in which she printed and
bound by hand, herself. She was a woman of faith and often opened the club meetings with the Lord's
Prayer.
She also served her community as a dedicated contract rural mail carrier for the Franktown Post Office for
approximately 20 years, even ending her career making her final deliveries in a limousine!
Susy was an avid animal lover and took in many rescue animals over the years, giving
them a safe and loving home for the remainder of their years. She was especially fond of horses and
enjoyed riding. Her passion for animals grew easily into a successful business which opened in 1980. Bob
& Susy owned and operated "Homewatch of Douglas County", a home and pet-sitting service for over 30
years, that earned top accolades from Homewatch International.
With good health and independence with her to the end, Susy passed away unexpectedly at her home in
Parker, Colorado, February 20, 2026, with her husband Bob by her side.
