Mary Dietz Obituary

Mary Josephine Dietz (Schwartz), beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at home on October 29, 2025, at the age of 94.

Mary was born on February 28, 1931, in Allentown, Pennsylvania, to Austrian immigrants Anna and Joseph Schwartz. When she was two, the family moved to New York City, where she was raised alongside her siblings Anna, Hilda, and Joseph.

It was in New York that Mary met the love of her life, John Dietz, through mutual friends. They married on June 16, 1951, beginning a beautiful partnership built on love, laughter, and faith. Together, they raised two daughters, Karen Ann and Janet Marie, and created a family life full of warmth and joy. The Dietz family later moved from New York to Somerville, New Jersey, and eventually settled in Littleton, Colorado, in 1973, where they would make lifelong friends and countless cherished memories.

Before raising her family, Mary worked for the phone company and at Bloomingdale's in New York. Later, she held clerical positions at Post Hardware in New Jersey and eventually joined John at Johns Manville in Colorado. Mary's deep Catholic faith was central to her life-her rosary and prayers brought her peace, and she shared her faith quietly but powerfully through her love and kindness toward others.

Mary and John shared a deep love for family, welcoming their children's spouses as their own and cherishing their six grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Family gatherings, weekly dinners, and vacations to the beach, Glenwood Springs, Fun Valley, and Estes Park were among Mary's happiest times. She never missed a grandchild's sporting event.

Mary was affectionately known as "Grandma" and "Nana" to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought endless happiness to her days. She is survived by her daughters Karen Miller, Janet (Don) Spond; six grandchildren-John (Trisha), Jill (Matt), Lindsay (Jared), Julie (Kirt), Stephen (Marissa), and Danny (Madeline); beloved great-grandchildren Emma; Bray, Brody, Bentley, and Briggs, Adalyn, Amber, Annie, Emilia, Lucca, Amara, Nora, J.D., Katherine, and Annaliese Mary, her namesake; sister Hilda (Walter) Taschek; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family. She was preceded in death by her husband, John; her parents; sister Anna Joseph; son-in-law Chet Miller; sister-in-law, Ellen; brother-in-law, John.

Mary found happiness in the simple pleasures of everyday life-her daily Starbucks runs, Chick-fil-A lunches, games of cards with friends, and time spent shopping or sharing meals. She adored her pets and found comfort and companionship in her dogs through the years.

Mary's life was one of devotion-devotion to her faith, to her family, and to the joy of being together. She was loving, funny, steadfast, and strong, with a heart that always had room for one more. She lived her life surrounded by those she loved most, creating memories that will be treasured forever.

Mary will be profoundly missed and lovingly remembered for her warmth, kindness, and the unwavering love she shared with everyone who is fortunate enough to know her.
