Sally N. Walker (Sally Ann Newman Walsh Walker), of
Lakewood, CO, passed away with her family by her side on March 16, 2026, at the age of 92 years.
She is lovingly remembered by her children: Bruce, Scott (Paige), and Karen; grandchildren: Graydon, Allan, Ryan, Logan, Emily and Grant (Abby); great grandchildren: Myra and Josie; and her sister-like cousin, Patty Marceron. Sally was pre-deceased by her husband: Donald Walker; parents: Marian and Richard Walsh; and grandparents, A.B.Cornell and Andrea Newman.
Born on Christmas Eve, 1933, in
Milford, NE, Sally lived with her grandparents in
Mason City, NE, and
Lyman, NE, until she moved to
Washington, DC, with her mother at age five. After High School, the West called Sally back to attend the University of Colorado in Boulder, graduating with a degree in Geography. During college, she met Don Walker on a double date, and when Don suggested that the men kiss the other's date goodnight – Sally and Don knew with that kiss that it was meant to be and never looked back, eventually making their home in
Lakewood, CO.
She worked over the years as a cartographer (back when maps were drawn by hand), children's program director for the Green Mountain Recreation Center, special education teacher's aide at Dunstan Junior High School, secretary with the Bureau of Mines at the Federal Center, and primarily as a very successful homemaker. Sally truly shined as daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother. She was the touchstone and center of our family, best friend to most, the ultimate caregiver, and was always there for each one of us no matter the need.
Sally led a full life traveling often with her daughter. Most recently, in September they drove 4500 miles - touring the great trees in CA (a lifelong dream), meeting her great grandchildren in Idaho, soaking in hot springs, and enjoying many other sites (new and revisited memories) along the way. And in January, they traveled to Cabo together for the 28th year. Sally enjoyed writing short stories, playing the piano, bowling weekly (on her team named "Split Happens"), skiing (into her 70's), working tirelessly in her beautiful gardens, blissfully watching all the birds who visited her feeders (hummingbirds her favorites), savoring her daily Pepsi, camping at the Great Sand Dunes, cheering on the Broncos and the Nuggets, and spending time at her cabin in the mountains. Most of all, Sally adored her many pets, ranging from turtles, a cat and a canary in her young life - to many dogs, rabbits, and parakeets as her family grew and she moved into her mid to later years. She could often be found with a dog by her side or a bunny in her lap.
While there could always be more to see and do, Sally left us knowing she had done all that she wanted and had the privilege of a life full of love and laughter. Her wry wit, which often caught others off guard and always resulted in a smile and chuckle, will be greatly missed and our many memories of her will be cherished. She has finally found that "better way to make a living" she often pondered. "Right, Grandma?" "Right."
A private celebration of life will be held for her immediate family at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, located in Kanab, Utah (https://bestfriends.org/sanctuary).
