Steven Schurman Obituary
This hunting season, there won't be one more ridge to climb, and the last bugle has
echoed through the mountains, calling an amazing father and Papa home to be with our
Lord, Steven Schurman.
Steven was 73 years young and left us suddenly after a tough fight surrounded by the
best medical staff and loved ones. Known to his beloved grandson's as "Papa", he was
raising Aidan and Gauge with the same steady hands and big heart that he had raised
his two daughters with and raised them until he yelled his last "boys!". He would do
anything for his family, and he showed that every single day with the love he gave to his
boys and his daughter.
He attended Wheatridge High School and then went on to peruse geology at CSU and
The Colorado School of Mines. He spent his time in Arvada as a geologist, at the same
house for over four decades. He built lifelong friends in his neighborhood and would
always lend a helping hand, advice or just share a laugh. He worked hard as a geologist
with oil and gas exploration and environmental cleanups and had a career he was so
very proud of.
When Steven wasn't on the back porch listening to his favorite music, he could be found
at his cabin in Rand, CO, his slice of Heaven on Earth. He spent the last 40 years
working on his cabin, a labor of love throughout his life. He completed his final project at
the cabin, but his family will carry on with "the list" and let it become our labor of love
now.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Calvin and Irma Schurman; his daughter, Sara
Schurman, and his best buddy that helped him fix everything at the cabin, Tony.
Steven is survived by his devoted daughter Amy Schurman; his two loving
grandchildren, Aidan and Gauge Schurman, his brother, Kevin Schurman (Kathy
Schurman, Jenny Schurman and family, Sam Schurman and family); and his sister.
A celebration of Steven's life will be held at Glory of God Lutheran Church (12200 W.
38 th Ave. Wheat Ridge, CO) on Wednesday, April 29 th , 2026. The viewing will be held at
9:30am, with the service at 10:30am, followed by a reception at 11:30am. Please join us
in celebrating my amazing Dad's life.
Everyone who knew Steven knew he was larger than life and couldn't go out without a
bang. He will take one last road trip this summer with his family, ending at his favorite
spot, the cabin. The family will be holding a service at his beloved cabin to spread his
remains over the meadow with the cannon he had made, just for that day followed by a
toast to him with his last batch of shine.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests raising a shot of spirits to Steven, sharing a good
hunting story, or doing something kind for someone who needs it-just the way Steven
would have wanted.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Tight lines, good bugles and steady trails
ahead, Dad. We love you and will forever honor you.
