Walter Oliver Obituary

Walter (Wally) Oliver passed away June 7, 2025, at his home in Eaton, Colorado. He was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on July 11, 1948, to Walter and Carole Oliver. When he was about two years old, his family moved from Oklahoma City to the San Francisco Bay area where his family had originated. In 1957 his family moved to Aurora, Colorado then in 1959 the family moved to Broomfield, Colorado. In 1964 he met his "One and Only", Libby, in high school. A year later he joined the Navy. While home on leave after Boot Camp, he asked Libby to write to him. He served from 1965-1969 during the Vietnam War off the coast of Vietnam. He earned the rank of Quartermaster and was a helmsman on the USS Mahan. After being released from active duty and transferred to the naval reserve, he returned to Broomfield and resumed his employment at Safeway. He was transferred to the Greeley, Colorado Safeway as the produce manager in the fall of 1970. Wally married Libby on February 1, 1971. A locally owned grocery store in Greeley hired him in February 1977. He worked for Toddy's supermarket until February 2004 when it sold and closed. Prior to his retirement from Toddy's, he served as a Board member for the Weld Food Bank. He filled his retirement with driving a silage truck for a local farmer, being a greeter at the Toyota dealership in Greeley, golfing, mowing for the City of Greeley golf course and traveling with Libby. He also enjoyed many summers camping and serving as camp host at Golden Bell Camp and Conference Center in Divide, Colorado. He was a member of Sunnyview Church of the Nazarene/Celebration Pointe Church for 38 years. Wally was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Carole Oliver and his sister Nancy Edwards. Wally is survived by his spouse, Libby; three children, Kari Terrazas (Anthony), Jamie Sutton (Wayne), Walter Russell Oliver; four grandchildren, Hannah Finn, Grant Finn, Alton Terrazas and Lincoln Terrazas; one sister Georgette Crutchfield (Wayne); two sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law and many nieces and nephews. Per Wally's request there will be no services at this time.

Today is 7/11 which is a SAD day for us as it was the day one of our best friends was born. Yes I am referring to our great friend Wally Oliver who is no longer here for us to enjoy spending time and birthdays with. Ruth & I are deeply saddened by the passing of our friend Wally. We were so lucky to have been friends with Wally for over 35 years. Wally always had a kind heart and a generous spirit to the many people he met and he called his friends throughout his life. But we know that his family is surrounded by peace and love at this difficult time. So, Wally, until we meet again, you will always be truly missed by us and by all of your friends and family who knew you! And as a side note, every time we go by a 7-11 store we will always think of Wally!!!

Libby and family our thoughts and prayers are with you. Wally was a wonderful coworker and leader, giving us good advice, he set an example for all of us to follow both at work and as a family man. We will miss him and remember his smile forever.

Sent Sympathy Gifts including Trees

Wally and Libby have been very dear and special friends to me for quite a few years. There was even a number of years that Wally detailed my car for me when it needed to be done. I was included with their family on a number of Holiday and special occasions for a delicious meal prepared by Wally and Libby and had special time with their family. I spent a night in their Greeley home when the electricity was out at my home and it was cold weather. I moved to TX in March 2014 and have missed my time with them so very much. We've stayed in touch by phone but it certainly hasn't been the same as being with them. God Bless you Wally.
